Where do you stand on China?

The Economist's recent advertising campaign in the UK asked readers to think about where they stand on a number of issues and we are inviting you to share your thoughts here on Facebook about the topics raised. You can view all of the recent posters from the advertising campaign in our photo album at: http://on.fb.me/racuQu

The latest topic is China. Is China a friend or a threat to the West?

Discussion points are listed below along with links to a selection of relevant articles The Economist has written previously about on the subject:

*China is a friend to the West:

*China makes a fifth of all the world’s goods. It kits out the West’s
consumers and finances the West’s borrowers.

*China goes out of its way to emphasise that it wants a “peaceful rise”.
No other great power in history has done that.

*China is the world’s biggest investor in green technology.

China is a threat to the West:

*China spends about $100 billion on defence, almost three times as much
as a decade ago, and nearly twice as much as Britain.

*China has cracked down on minorities in Tibet and Xinjiang and persecuted
democracy campaigners like the Nobel laureate, Liu Xiaobo.

*China’s hunger for raw materials is exhausting the earth and bolstering
corrupt regimes in the developing world.
